The daily promise: 100 ways to feel happy about your life
By Dominique Bertolucci
'People often say to me: you seem so happy and cheerful, don't you ever have a bad day? Of course I do. I wouldn't be human if I didn't. But what I don't do is let the way I feel about my day change the way I feel about myself.' You could sit down and read this book from cover to cover but it's greatest gift is a daily guide. Choose one page each day and put that promise into action. In sequence or choose one randomly.
You deserve to feel good about who you are and the life you live. Make that your promise today.
Starting with a commitment to treating yourself with kindness you build the life you want on a pact of eight promises. Each representing a different promise, each explained with its role in building and maintaining your confidence and self belief.
I have a number of strategies that I use to shift my energy and raise my vibration. To be able to open at any page and take a moment to reflect on the words spoken, is another tool that I will utilise to acknowledge myself and the importance of ongoing development with my relationship with self.
Have you filled a bucket today? A guide to daily happiness for kids
By Carol McCloud and Illustrated by David Messing
Have you filled a bucket today? A guide to daily happiness written by Carol McCloud and Illustrated by David Messing was first published in 2006 to teach young children, primary ages 4-9, how to be bucket fillers.
It is helpful to think of every person as being born with an invisible bucket. The bucket represents a person’s mental and emotional health. You can’t see the bucket, but it’s there.
It is primarily the responsibility of parents and other caregivers to fill a child’s bucket. When we give praise, play and sing, listen to our children, provide a safe and supportive environment, show care and affection we fill a child’s bucket.
In addition to being loved, children must also be taught how to love others. I personally feel that unconditional love is natural for children and this needs to be nurtured and encouraged teaching them to fill their own bucket as well other peoples. Children who can express kindness and love lead healthier and happier lives. When we care about others and express our love through what we say and do, we feel good and fill our own bucket too.
This book is a great opportunity to fill your child’s bucket, encouraging them to express how they feel, also helping them imagine whose bucket they might fill and what they could say or do to fill a bucket. Tell them whose bucket you filled today. How you did this and practise with them to become daily bucket fillers. Very quickly they will experience the pride and joy of filling buckets.
Written with kids aged 4-9 in mind however this heart-warming book that encourages positive behaviour is honestly beneficial for all of us. How can we be more loving, caring and considerate? How can we all be better bucket fillers. Filling the buckets of others and our own of love.
The little book of mindfulness.
Edited by Tiddy Rowan.
Little book yes, the wisdom and enlightenment of each page however is monumentally powerful. Opening this book at any page will hopefully give you a recipe to remind you of the importance of staying (or more likely returning to) the here and now. Eckart Tolle, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Albert Einstein, Buddha, Mother Teresa, Rumi, Thich Nhat Hanh, Ram Dass and many more of the great spiritual leaders, thinkers and influencers have had some of their wisdom nuggets compiled into this little book.
When you are on a journey, it is certainly helpful to know where you're going - but remember: the only thing that is ultimately real about your journey is the step that you are taking at this moment. That's all there ever is.
I had a Black Dog
written and Illustrated by Mathew Johnstone
There are many different breeds of 'Black Dog' affecting millions of people from all walks of life. The black dog is an equal opportunity mongrel.
Short in stature, heavy though particularly for those who can relate to having one.
For myself this story reminds me of another life where I once was.
Beautifully written and illustrated, Mathew Johnstone brings us a story that many of us know however feel unable to share.
Being affected by the black dog is something that needs love and support. Reach out, speak to someone, tell them what's going on. If you had a cut you wouldn't just allow it to keep bleeding. Don't allow this beast to keep bitting you. Seek help. There are people who can help. This world needs you. We love you!
Peace, joy and love to you all.
